A 58-year-old Barnhart man was arrested after he refused to leave property that is owned by Jefferson County. The man had previously lived in a home on the property before being evicted, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies were called on Sept. 24 to the 2900 block of Wedde Road in Barnhart due to the man allegedly interfering as code enforcement officials were trying to remove derelict vehicles and solid waste from the property. The man was camping outside of a house that he was recently evicted from, the report said.
The man allegedly told deputies he had received multiple notices to leave the property and was aware that the county owns the land. He also said he would not leave and intended to stop officials from removing the vehicles and waste, according to the report.
The man was arrested, and deputies found he had a gun, which was violation of the man’s probation agreement, the report said.
The man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked, according to the report.
The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for trespassing and unlawful use of a weapon, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
