A 27-year-old Barnhart man was arrested for alleged possession of heroin. The man was arrested at about 8 p.m. July 7 in the parking lot of Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave., Arnold Police reported.
Someone called Arnold Police and reported seeing the man taking pills and acting strangely while sitting in an SUV in the parking lot. An officer arrived and found the man in the SUV, a Ford Escape, the report said.
When the officer approached the SUV, the man appeared to be looking through a purse, and the officer watched the man for a while before his radio went off, alerting the suspect to the officer’s presence, according to the report.
The officer told the man he was there because the man had been acting suspiciously in the SUV and was seen taking pills. The man denied he had taken any pills, the report said.
However, the man appeared to be under the influence of some type of substance, and the officer believed he saw the outline of a pill bottle in the man’s front right pocket. The man first told the officer he didn’t have anything in his pocket, but then he said he had a pill bottle that belonged to his girlfriend, according to the report.
The man gave the bottle to the officer, who allegedly found capsules inside that contained a white powdery substance believed to be heroin. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants, the report said.
Depending on the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Rich Shular said.
