man in handcuffs

A 29-year-old Ballwin man was arrested in Eureka for allegedly driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Prior to the arrest, he allegedly was racing a 1995 Chevrolet Corvette on Thorntree Lane and arguing with a man who lives in one of the homes along the street, Eureka Police reported.

A woman called Eureka Police at about 9:40 p.m. May 21 and said the Corvette driver had been driving erratically and he and another man were having an argument in the 600 block of Thorntree Lane. While the officer was at the scene talking to the woman, he saw the Corvette approach, the report said.

The officer signaled for the driver to stop, and he did. The officer said he smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, according to the report.

The driver reportedly said he had drunk a couple of shots earlier in the evening while attending a wedding reception, and the man refused to perform field sobriety tests. A second officer arrived, and the driver was arrested, the report said.

Police allegedly found two small, empty bottles of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in one of the man’s pants’ pockets. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.

Lt. Michael Werges said the man was issued summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for DWI and driving with a suspended license.
