The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft from a truck stopped at the Dollar General store, 2855 Hwy. 61, south of Festus to make a delivery. The driver said his Perry Ellis bag that contained a handgun was stolen from the cab of the International semi truck, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. June 10. After the delivery, the victim continued on his route for a while before noticing the bag and Taurus G2C Millennium handgun were missing. The items were valued at $290, the report said.

Grant Bissell, the Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said the handgun was recovered over the weekend of June 24-25. However, there were no arrests.
