The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 25-year-old Granite City, Ill., man who went missing last night (June 17) at Rockford Beach Park along the Big River in House Springs, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
Michael Lewis was last seen at about 8:30 p.m. with at least two other people and possibly as many as four other people at the park, Bissell said.
He said someone who was not with Lewis at the park reported him missing at about 10:05 p.m. Thursday.
Bissell said members of the Byrnes Mill Police Department and High Ridge Fire Protection District helped deputies search for Lewis, and firefighters used one of the district's boats to search along the river.
Bissell said someone concerned about Lewis told deputies he had gone to the park and met at least two people there. At some point, Lewis and one of his companions walked away from the others, but the companion returned without Lewis. Then, the people Lewis met at the park left after he didn’t return to where they had gathered earlier.
Deputies contacted people who had been at the park with Lewis, and as of this afternoon (June 18), they had provided no information about his whereabouts, Bissell said.
He said deputies continue to search for the missing man, and there appears to be no signs of foul play.
