Authorities have identified the man killed by lightning Saturday (June 25) outside a home in the 2000 block of Burley Road south of Festus.
Daniel L. Kennedy, 72, and his dog died Saturday when they were standing in the yard and a storm rolled in and lightning struck them, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
A family member who had heard a close lightning strike discovered the man, and he was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Higginbotham said.
The Sheriff’s Office was called at 4:54 p.m. about the incident.
