A garage in the 2000 block of Arlene Drive in Arnold was extensively damaged by fire this morning (June 24), says Ron Harder, spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection District.

No one was home when the fire broke out. Fortunately, at about 9 a.m., neighbors noticed smoke coming from the garage and called Rock Fire about it, Harder said.

When firefighters arrived, they could see “heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage,” which is attached to a home. Firefighters “quickly attacked” the blaze and got it under control in about 30 minutes. In addition, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the home, Harder said.

After putting out the blaze, firefighters were on the scene for about another hour cleaning up. So, with the high temperatures, the fire district was careful to rotate crews, Harder said.

Typically, he said, the fire district calls Rock Township Ambulance District to have an ambulance at the scene as a cooling station in case someone overheats.

As of about noon today, the cause of the fire had not been determined. In fact, personnel from the Rock Fire Marshal’s Office was still at the scene investigating, Harder said.
