The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of AT&T telecommunication wire that was stolen in the 10000 block of Hwy. Y in Dittmer. A portion of the wire was still on the ground, and an AT&T employee said he was worried someone may return to steal the remaining wire, authorities reported.

The AT&T employee told deputies on June 16 that approximately 140 feet of wire was stolen. He said the wire was likely cut between May 26 and June 16, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not report an approximate value for the stolen wire or an estimated cost to repair the wire.

As of June 20, none of the stolen wire had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the theft to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
