The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of 300 feet of copper cable from a utility pole in the Hillsboro area. The theft caused service outages for AT&T customers, police reported.
The cable was stolen from utility poles in the 8200 block of Old Hwy. 21 north of Hillsboro. Investigators believe the cable was taken between about 8 a.m. July 23 and about 8 a.m. July 25, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office did not report an approximate value for the stolen wire.
As of Aug. 7, the wire had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the theft to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
