The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of about 500 feet of AT&T phone cable that was cut from poles on the side of Hwy. E north of Klondike Road in De Soto area. The cable was valued at $5,000, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The cable was stolen between about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15 and 12:15 p.m. Aug. 16. An AT&T employee told deputies the cable was about 20 feet off the ground, and someone would need to be experienced at climbing telephone poles in order to cut the cable, the report said.
AT&T received a report of a phone outage at about 12:15 p.m. Aug. 16. However, the employee said he was unable to respond to the area until Aug. 18, according to the report.
As of Sept. 3, the cable had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
