Ashes that fell from a barbecue pit sparked a fire on the deck of a Cedar Hill home early Monday morning (Sept. 4).
Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 3:29 a.m., after a neighbor and a newspaper delivery person both saw the fire at 705 Hillview Drive and called 911. When trucks arrived, firefighters found a small fire on the home’s deck and quickly extinguished it, said Assistant Fire Chief Greg Shuster of the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District.
Shuster said he’s not sure if anyone was home, but no one answered the door. So, firefighters put out the fire and left. As of Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 5), Cedar Hill Fire had not talked to the homeowners, Shuster said.
He said there was some damage to the deck, but it did not spread to the home.
The Big River Ambulance District also responded to the call, Shuster said.
