A 78-year-old Arnold woman recently was scammed out of $3,000. The incident was reported May 10, Arnold Police report.
The woman told police she got a call from someone who claimed to be an AT&T representative and told her she had a bad computer router. The person told her to send $3,000 electronically to someone in New York. She transferred the money and got no services for it, Detective Lt. James Jones said.
He said it’s unlikely the money will be recovered or that police can locate the person who got the money.
Jones said these kinds of scams are all too common, and he warns people against sending any money to strangers who call.
