An Arnold woman is being sued for wrongful death by the mother of a man who died following a two-vehicle accident in St. Louis County last year. Amy Daugherty, the mother of Adam C. Whittington, filed the wrongful death lawsuit against Jennifer L. Jackson, 39, of Arnold, according to court records.

Daugherty is suing Jackson for more than $25,000.

The lawsuit, which was filed Jan. 4 in the St. Louis County Circuit Court, claims that Jackson was driving while intoxicated and speeding on July 29 on the I-255 Jefferson Barracks Bridge in St. Louis County and allegedly crashed into Whittington’s vehicle.

Jackson was arrested for suspicion of DWI following the crash, but the St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney’s Office had not filed criminal charges against her as of Jan. 9.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report following the accident, Whittington, who lived in Dupo, Ill., was driving a westbound 2007 Ford Focus on the bridge and stopped due to a previous crash, and then a westbound 2016 Jeep Patriot that Jackson was driving struck the rear of the Focus,

Whittington was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. July 30, the report said. He was 28.

No injuries were reported for Jackson.

She was wearing a seat belt, and it is not known if Whittington was wearing one, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested Jackson at 6:31 a.m. July 29 for the alleged DWI, the report said.
