Two Arnold Police officers were hurt Tuesday afternoon (June 14) while trying to restrain a 22-year-old Hazelwood man who appeared intoxicated and was walking around in traffic at Hwy. 141 and Astra Way, Detective Lt. James Jones says.

At about 2 p.m., Arnold Police got a call about the man and when officers arrived and asked him to get out of the roadway, he refused. In fact, the man began running into oncoming traffic, Jones said.

When officers tried to subdue the man, he resisted and assaulted them. Two of the officers sustained minor injures, but they were not transported to a hospital for treatment, Jones said.

He said it took four officers to eventually subdue and restrain the man. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, and even after the man was restrained, he continued to resist, Jones said.

The man was not hurt during the arrest. However, he was transported from the scene to an area hospital for evaluation, Jones said.

He said he doesn’t know why the man was in Arnold.
