Arnold Police are investigating an apparent road-rage incident that ended up sending the two men involved to a hospital. The incident happened at about 2 p.m. Aug. 18 on the West Outer Road near Vogel Road, police reported.

A 22-year-old Arnold man and a 54-year-old St. Louis man allegedly got into a fight on the side of the road after they encountered each other while driving. The Arnold man was driving a silver moped, and the St. Louis man was driving a Toyota Rav4, the report said.

The St. Louis man told police the Arnold man was recklessly driving the moped and was waving his arms and yelling at other drivers on the road. The St. Louis man also said the rider eventually lost control of the moped and crashed. After falling of the moped, the rider allegedly kicked and spit on the St. Louis man’s Toyota, according to the report.

The St. Louis man said he got out of his SUV, and the rider punched him in the face. He told police he wrestled with the rider, who had left by the time police arrived, the report said.

The St. Louis man had bruises on his face, but he refused medical attention at the scene. However, the man later went to a hospital because he had pain in one of his eyes and believed one of his hands was broken, according to the report.

About 20 minutes after the incident, police were called to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County because the Arnold man had gone to the hospital because of head and neck pain, the report said.

The Arnold man said the driver of the SUV had yelled at him while they were on the road. The Arnold man also told police he lost control of the moped and crashed when he waved his arm at the St. Louis man, according to the report.

The moped rider allegedly admitted to kicking and spitting on the Toyota, but he said the St. Louis man got out of his SUV and threw the first punch. The Arnold man said  the St. Louis man slammed him onto the pavement while the two men wrestled, according to the report.

As of Aug. 28, the incident was still under investigation, and neither of the men had been arrested or charged with a crime, Capt. Rich Shular said.
