Two Arnold residents involved in traffic incidents three hours apart on July 13 were arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicate. It was the second suspected DWI for each of the drivers, Arnold Police reported.
The first arrest occurred at about 8:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Arnold Commons Drive where a 51-year-old Arnold woman was involved in a two-vehicle accident. The woman was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer, and while she was trying to change lanes, the driver’s side of the SUV struck the passenger side of a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by an 18-year-old Fenton man, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
No one was injured in the accident, but the car sustained minor damage. There was no damage reported for the SUV, Wooldridge said.
The woman’s breath allegedly smelled like alcohol. She refused to take a sobriety field test, and she was arrested and taken to the Arnold Police Station. She refused to take a breath test at the station, and she was booked and released. Because she is a prior offender, Arnold Police will seek DWI charges against her through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Wooldridge said.
The second accident occurred about 11:50 p.m., when an Arnold Police officer using a radar gun reportedly clocked a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 going 94 mph as it traveled north on I-55. The Silverado, which was driven by a 32-year-old Arnold man, exited the interstate at Hwy. 141 and eventually was pulled over on Big Bill Road, Wooldridge said.
The man smelled like alcohol, and he was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he refused a breath test. He was booked and later released. Since it was the man’s second alleged DWI offense, Arnold Police also will seek charges against him through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Wooldridge said.
