A 39-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested after he was found in a car that had been reported stolen in Arnold. The suspect and the stolen 2021 Dodge Charger were located in the Hillsboro area, and investigators allegedly found the man with illegal drugs, paraphernalia and a gun, authorities reported.
The Arnold Police Crime Suppression Unit determined that the car, which was rented from Enterprise Leasing, 3932 Jeffco Blvd., and not returned was in the Hillsboro area. The unit contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office about the car, which was worth about $30,000, and deputies found it at about 9:15 p.m. Dec. 26 parked outside of the Britton’s Quick Shop, 8730 Old Hwy. 21, north of Hillsboro, the report said.
Arnold Police officers responded to the gas station, where they allegedly found the man inside the car, as well as a substance believed to be methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a gun, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Arnold Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for stealing a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a weapon, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
The Charger had been rented on Sept. 30 and was to be returned on Oct. 4. The suspect allegedly had closed a bank card he used to rent the car and had refused to talk to Enterprise Leasing employees, who reported the theft on Dec. 9, according to Arnold Police.
