A 37-year-old Festus man was arrested in Arnold for allegedly hitting another man in the head with a gun and threatening to kill him. The alleged victim, a 35-year-old Sikeston man, said his former girlfriend is the alleged assailant’s sister, Arnold Police reported.
The incident happened at about 10:10 p.m. Feb. 9. The alleged victim said he was attacked while trying to take his daughter to his former girlfriend’s home on Tiara Drive in Arnold, the report said.
The alleged victim said he saw a Ford F-250 stopped on Tiara Drive with its lights off and the suspect got out of the pickup and walked up to his car. The suspect then allegedly hit the victim in the head with a gun, put a bullet in the gun’s chamber, pointed it at the victim’s head and threatened to kill him, according to the report.
Then, the suspect walked back to his pickup and drove away. The alleged victim had a cut on his head but refused medial treatment. He said he did not know why his former girlfriend’s brother would attack him, the report said.
A short time later, an Arnold Police officer located the F-250 on Hobelman Drive, just more than 3 miles south of Tiara Drive. The officer reportedly found a gun near the pickup and believes the suspect threw the gun out of the F-250 after he was pulled over. The officer also allegedly found a magazine for the gun outside the pickup, according to the report.
The suspect is a convicted felon and is not allowed to have a gun, Arnold Police reported.
The suspect denied attacking the other man, but he was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Arnold Police will seek charges against the Festus man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
