William H. Loughran, 27, of Arnold has been charged with a felony for allegedly throwing his girlfriend’s cat against a wall in an Arnold-area apartment, injuring the pet, court records show.
At about 8 p.m. June 26, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Woodglen Apartments just west of Arnold after the girlfriend said she found her cat hurt and hiding under a bed. The cat was bleeding, had a bump on its head and appeared unable to close its mouth, the Sheriff’s Office report said.
Loughran told a deputy the cat had attacked him and he threw it against a wall to get it off him. The deputy allegedly found a large blood spot on the wall in a closet and trails of blood from the closet to the bed and the bathroom, according to the report.
The girlfriend said when she returned home, Loughran was in the bathroom washing blood off his hands. He had numerous cuts and scratches on his hands, along with what appeared to be blood on his shirt, the report said.
On Monday (June 29), the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Loughran with animal abuse, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison or one year in jail.
Loughran posted a $5,000 surety bond on Tuesday (June 30) to be released from jail. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 3, according to court papers.
