A 45-year-old Arnold man allegedly damaged a phone in an Arnold Jail cell where he was being held for allegedly assaulting his brother, a 53-year-old Imperial man, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine.
The Arnold man was arrested at about 4:15 p.m. Jan. 11 after he was riding in a Dodge Charger that his brother was driving south on Old Lemay Ferry Road and the two got into an argument that turned physical, the report said.
The victim told police he was on the phone, and his brother kept turning up the volume on the radio. The victim said he repeatedly told the suspect to stop turning up the radio and pulled over near Glenwood Drive, where the suspect allegedly tore off his brother’s glasses and facemask and assaulted him, according to the report.
Police took the Arnold man to the Police Station, where he was held for 12 hours. At some point, the man allegedly damaged the keypad and handset of the phone in his cell, the report said.
The damage was discovered at about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 12, after the Arnold man had been released on a summons to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for domestic assault. The man allegedly could be seen on surveillance footage damaging the phone, according to the report.
At about 7:45 a.m., officers were called to the Quality Inn, 3610 the West Outer Road, on an unrelated call and found the Arnold man at the hotel, where he was arrested again for destruction of property stemming from the incident in the Jail cell, the report said.
The man was issued another summons to appear in Municipal Court, for causing about $700 worth of damage to the phone. The man did not tell police why he damaged the phone, Valentine said.
