man in handcuffs

A 59-year-old Arnold man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine after he was stopped for having license plates that were not registered to the vehicle he was driving. The man was arrested just before 5 p.m. July 14, Arnold Police reported.

An officer saw a 2002 Jeep Liberty in the 2400 block of Villa Drive that had an Illinois license plate, checked it and discovered it had been reported stolen and was registered to a 2007 Jeep, the report said.

After the Jeep was stopped, the officer asked the man to get out of the vehicle, and as he got out, he reportedly dropped a metal smoking pipe. The officer also allegedly found a crystal-like substance on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat, according to the report.

The man was arrested, but he was released to Rock Township Ambulance personnel because of a pre-existing medical condition, the report said.

Depending on the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of meth and possession of stolen property, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
