man in handcuffs

A 57-year-old Arnold man was arrested at his home for reportedly using a debit card stolen at a bank ATM. The man allegedly was seen in surveillance video at four Arnold businesses using the card to purchase items, Arnold Police reported.

The debit card was stolen Feb. 22 from an ATM at Arsenal Credit Union, 3780 Vogel Road. The man, who was arrested March 4, allegedly was seen in surveillance video taking the card after the victim left it behind, the report said.

The victim told police the card was used to make a to make a total of $631.21 in fraudulent purchases at two hardware stores, a Mobil on the Run gas station and Petco in Arnold, according to the report.

Investigators identified the man as a suspect after he was seen in surveillance video getting out of a blue 2006 Ford Explorer at the Mobil on the Run gas station, 3611 W. Outer Road. They used the SUV’s license plate to find where he lived, Arnold Police reported.

When police went to the man’s home on Peppermint Lane to arrest him, he reportedly was wearing the same shirt seen in the gas station surveillance video, and he had a blue flannel jacket that also was seen in surveillance video. The suspect allegedly told police he had been at the stores where the stolen debit card was used but did not remember making purchases at the businesses, the report said.

The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Arnold Police will seek a felony charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for fraudulently using a credit device, Cpl. Brett Ackermann said.
