A 61-year-old Arnold man allegedly stole a 56-year-old St. Louis woman’s purse from an electric mobility scooter at Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave. The woman had left her purse in the scooter’s basket after shopping at the store, police reported.
The woman left her purse behind on June 7 after shopping and leaving the scooter in the store’s parking lot. Video surveillance allegedly showed the man taking the purse from the basket after an employee returned the scooter to the store’s vestibule area, the report said.
The man was in the store for about 20 minutes and left after making a purchase. He did not use money or credit cards that were in the woman’s purse, Arnold Police reported.
The officer was able to identify the man and arrested the man at a home in the 2200 block of Cessna Drive. The man allegedly told the officer he discarded the purse in St. Louis County, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, the report said.
Arnold Police will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony stealing, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
