The Great Midwest Antique Mall, 530 Workman Road, was burglarized at 2:42 a.m. May 30, and 27 pieces of jewelry worth an estimated $800 were stolen, Eureka Police reported.

The front glass door on the south side of the building was broken, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage, the report said.

Security footage showed a man covered head to toe in what appeared to be a sweatsuit with a hood, which was pulled up, entering the mall with a crowbar. The man, who appeared to be between 5 feet, 9 inches, to 6 feet tall, was wearing a mask that covered the bottom of his face, glasses or goggles, and gloves, the report said.

He broke the glass of four display cases, scattering some of the cases’ contents and taking the jewelry. The report did not give an estimated value for the damaged cases.

An alarm for the antique mall had been set, but it did not activate when the man exited the store at 2:46 a.m.

Capt. David Wilson said Eureka Police were told that a similar burglary occurred in March in Harrisonburg, Va., but did not know if the burglaries are connected.

On June 7, Wilson said none of the jewelry had been recovered, and there had been on arrests. Anyone with information about the burglary should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
