The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of an estimated 25 vehicles from a salvage yard in the 2300 block of Crossroads Road in Barnhart.
The thefts were discovered Sept. 23 by the son of the owner of the salvage yard. The son told authorities he was contacted by a friend who questioned whether someone was hauling vehicles from the property, so the son went there to check the property, the report said.
The son, who had not been to the property in six months, discovered about 10 vehicles missing from the front driveway and about 15 more missing from the back lot. He could only provide specific information about one vehicle – an older-model Buick Park Avenue valued at $1,000, the report said.
As of Sept. 25, none of the stolen vehicles had been recovered, and a person of interest had been identified, although there were no official suspects, said Grant Bissell, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. He asks anyone with information about the thefts to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
