Pevely Police Chief Alan Eickhoff is retiring with little notice. He had held the job since July 1, 2019.

His official retirement date is Sept. 30, but he will not return to the Police Station before then because he had vacation days saved up and has been using them since the first week of September, when he informed Pevely city officials of his intention to retire.

In a Sept. 9 phone call, Eickhoff confirmed he has retired but would not comment further.

Eickhoff, 65, of St. Louis County is being paid an $80,000 salary.

Mayor Stephanie Haas said Eickhoff had spoken with city officials in August about the possibility of retiring.

“We were in discussions prior to his retirement,” Haas said. “We wish him the best of luck.”

Before coming to Pevely, Eickhoff was an assistant chief/lieutenant colonel with the Ferguson Police Department.

Haas said two Pevely Police veterans are running the department until a new police chief is hired.

“Capt. (Larry) Miller and Lt. (Greg) Lowry are handling the duties of police chief,” she said.

Haas also said she and the city attorneys, Bob and Allison Sweeney, are overseeing the department’s operations.

Pevely officials already were in the process of searching for a new city administrator after Nathan Schauf abruptly resigned from the position June 30.

“We are starting interviews (for city administrator) this week,” Haas said Monday.

Longtime city employee Wade Amsden, the Pevely Sewer Department supervisor, is serving as interim city administrator while continuing his Sewer Department duties.
