The Pevely Board of Aldermen has delayed a decision about whether to buy nearly $75,000 in playground equipment for the Ellis Bage Memorial Park at 601 Glenwood Drive on the south side of the city.
Board members were scheduled on Feb. 20 to vote on the expenditure, but after a discussion about the facility’s use, the agenda item was tabled so the aldermen could discuss the matter further at an upcoming board workshop, probably in March.
The agenda item called for the aldermen to award a $74,980 contract to Playground Equipment Professionals in Valley Park to replace worn-out playground equipment that was removed from the park more than a year ago.
The city would use Stormwater and Park tax funds to buy the equipment.
During the discussion about the equipment for the small Ellis Bage Memorial Park, which is tucked in a residential district, Ward 3 Alderman Don Menkhus said he wanted more information about before voting on the expenditure.
“How much is that park used?” Menkhus asked. “I don’t know how it’s used.”
City Administrator Andy Hixson said the board did not need to vote on the item that night and could take more time to consider it.
“We can certainly talk about this,” he said.
Hixson said he have more information about the park and its use at the upcoming work session.
The six aldermen who were present for the meeting voted to table the matter.
Ward 1 Alderman Larry Coulson and Ward 2 Alderman Rick Yount were absent from the meeting.
