An engine bay at Cedar Hill Fire Protection District’s Station 3 in Byrnesville now has a splash of color, thanks to the Northwest High School Mural Club.
The club, made up of Northwest High School students, painted two murals on the engine bay walls at the station, 8790 Byrnesville Road.
Chief Mick Fischer said the district purchased about $100 worth of paint and brushes for the club to complete two murals.
“I think they did an amazing job with it,” he said. “It’s kind of a morale booster for our guys to have that painted so big on the engine bay, and it’s something (the students) should be proud of.”
Fischer said the students painted the district’s logo and the words, “Cedar Hill Fire Rescue,” on the engine bay walls.
Northwest High senior Destiny Clary, president of the mural club, said she was honored to be part of the project.
“It was a privilege, it just felt great to be part of doing something for the community that we live in,” said Clary, 17, of Cedar Hill.
She said the district provided the images and the club made stencils to work from.
Fischer said the students started on Oct. 7 and finished on Oct. 17.
Clary said she painted most of the lettering inside the image of the district’s logo.
She said eight other club members worked on the project, including Bayleigh Barrett, Cheyenne Ingrum, Cadence Frederick, Anna Rauch, Ashley Harris, Anastaja Campbell, Dakota Rhoads, and Madi McClelland.
“It was kind of scary getting up on the scaffolding, but all in all, I think it was a really good experience and it turned out really well,” Clary said.
She said it was a rewarding project to work on.
“I felt really proud of me and the other members of the mural club, that we were able to do something so cool for people we have so much respect for,” she said.
Clary said the club normally completes murals around the school, and she was excited to paint one in the community.
“It feels like all our hard work has paid off,” she said.
Fischer said he has asked the club to paint a similar mural at Station 2 at 8800 Hwy. 30 in Dittmer.
Clary said she is honored the club was asked to paint another mural for the fire district.
She said a design or date for the mural has not yet been set.
Fischer said he would like to have the club paint a mural at the headquarters building, 6766 Cedar Hill Road, in Cedar Hill but there is no available wall space.
