The start of a road improvement project planned for the intersection at Hwy. 21 and Lowry Lane in Hillsboro has been delayed. The project originally was scheduled to start this summer but now will be put off until spring 2022, with completion expected in the fall of that year, the Missouri Department of Transportation has announced.
The reason for the delay is because property acquisition for the project has moved slower than anticipated, MoDOT reported.
According to MoDOT, the purpose of the project is to improve safety at the intersection by installing a two-way left-turn lane and upgrading existing guardrail to current standards from 2,100 feet north of Lowry Lane to 900 feet south of Lowry Lane.
MoDOT officials say the project is needed to reduce the number of crashes and help overall traffic flow.
