The Missouri Department of Transportation will close all lanes in both directions of Hwy. 67 at I-55 overnight this weekend in order to demolish the old I-55 bridge over Hwy. 67, the department announced today, Oct. 3, in a written statement.

Crews will begin closing both directions of Hwy. 67 at 7 p.m. today, with all lanes expected to be closed by 9 p.m., and all lanes reopening by 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The lanes will be closed again from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, the statement said.

During the closures, northbound Hwy. 67 traffic will be detoured to southbound I-55, take exit 170, go south on Hwy. 61 and continue northbound on I-55.

Southbound Hwy. 67 motorists will detour to westbound Hwy. A and take the I-55 exit 175, where drivers will be able to continue south on I-55 to reach Hwy. 67, MoDOT says in the statement.

It further states that drivers northbound on I-55 wanting to travel south on Hwy. 67 will be detoured onto northbound Hwy. 67 at exit 174 and detour westbound on Hwy. A to southbound I-55 to reach southbound Hwy. 67.

Detour signage will be put in place. All work is weather permitting.

The purpose of the overall project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region, according to the MoDOT website.

The bridge work is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely south to just south of Festus.
