Amber Brennan of De Soto submitted this photo of her cat, Luna, a rescue from the Open Door Animal Sanctuary in House Springs.

Amber Brennan of De Soto said her family’s cat, Luna, was a rescue from the Open Door Animal Sanctuary in House Springs.

“Four years ago my then almost 11-year-old daughter, Helen, wanted a black kitten for her October birthday. We immediately called Open Door and, sure enough, they had a bunch of kittens!” Brennan said.

She said Luna at first was at the bottom of a crowd of kittens in a cage, but Helen found her.

“My daughter immediately said she wanted that one!” Brennan said. “We got her out and played with her. About a week later Luna, named after one of Helen’s favorite Harry Potter characters at the time, came home.

“Luna has since become my cat, Brennan said. "She loves food, especially fresh baked banana bread, cheese, turkey, and soft parts of the popcorn. She is so spoiled and even has a favorite blanket. Luna is definitely the queen of the house.”

Brennan said she does not know Luna’s breed, but her mother was a feral cat.

“My son says she’s crazy,” Brennan said. “She likes to be on her own terms. She’s the boss. She does not get along with other pets.”

Still, her family loves her.

“She’s an important part of our family,” Brennan said.
