The third annual Jefferson County Job Fair will offer the opportunity for those seeking employment to meet with representatives from local businesses and companies looking to hire. The free event is slated to run from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Bvld., in Arnold.
Nearly 50 employers will participate, with recruiters on hand to provide information, take applications and interview applicants. The employers are seeking workers in a variety of fields, including health care, manufacturing, information technology, communications, transportation and more.
They are looking for full-time and part-time workers, with experience or without. They also are seeking people for first jobs or retirement jobs. Many employers provide training and offer signing bonuses to qualified candidates.
“Employers will be ready to hire on the spot,” Leader assistant publisher Peggy Scott said. “Job seekers should be prepared to apply and even receive job offers at the fair.”
The Job Fair, presented by Express Employment Professionals, also is sponsored by Leader Publications, the Arnold Chamber of Commerce, the Fox C-6 School District, the city of Arnold and Jefferson College.
Organizers believe helping employers and job seekers get face-to-face time with each other is paramount.
“So much of the hiring process is automated these days; it’s done online or through email,” said Lora Warner, employment specialist with Jefferson College. “At the fair, you will get to talk to a real person, ask questions you wouldn’t get to online.”
Warner said personal interaction helps prospective employers and job seekers form better connections, another vital piece of the employment puzzle.
“Employers hire for multiple positions within their company,” she said. “The HR person for a manufacturer might be there looking for people to fill a certain warehouse job – but that person is also responsible for hiring office staff, salespeople, even the cleaning crew. You don’t know what connections you might make that could help you in the future.”
Warner and other Jefferson College staffers will offer on-the-spot resume help. Local photographers Ron and Lisa Rigdon will be on hand to take free digital portraits for job seekers to use on social media.
In addition, fair attendees will have the chance to win prizes at the event.
