Jefferson College will host its first-ever figure modeling workshop on Saturday, provided there is enough interest in the event from models and artists.
The deadline to register is Thursday. It costs $20 for models to take part in the workshop and $10 for artists who wish to sketch them. The Jefferson College Workforce & Employment Services department is offering the workshop.
The event, called “Figure Modeling 101,” is a workshop focused on mentoring first-time and aspiring figure models and involves nude modeling. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college’s Fine Arts Building, Room 200.
“I would say if we have even a couple of figure models and a couple of artists, we will have it,” said Lora Warner, the Jefferson College Workforce & Employment Services director. “We may have to postpone it if we do not get enough registered. This is a new workshop for us.”
She said the workshop will provide those interested in nude modeling a chance to learn about the profession in a safe, professional atmosphere.
Warner said the college has a need for figure models in other classes it offers.
“For art classes at the college, we have relatively few models for students to draw in their courses. This class will train people to be figure models, which are paid positions,” she said.
The workshop instructor is Rob Miller, who created the class to guide others through the process of becoming figure models, according to information from the college.
Participants in the workshop must be at least 18 years old, Warner said.
