Jefferson College is offering free oil changes to U.S. veterans from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.
However, the offer is limited to just 60 vehicles, and registration, which opens Monday (Nov. 1), is required.
Faculty and students from Jefferson College’s Automotive Technology Program will perform the oil changes at the Automotive Technology lab, which is behind the Career and Technical Education building on the Hillsboro campus.
Diesel engines are excluded due to vendor supplies.
The project is underwritten by Dobbs Tire and Auto Centers, AutoZone and NAPA. The college’s partners will provide oil, filters and supplies.
Jefferson College President Dena McCaffrey said the college has sponsored a free oil change day for veterans in previous years off campus, but this is the first time the effort will take place on campus.
“I’m proud of the program and our students for supporting veterans, who mean so much to our community,” McCaffrey said. “We are so grateful for their service to our country.”
In addition to the oil changes, the college will provide veterans free barbecue while supplies last, as well as information about available educational resources for military personnel.
Veterans interested in registering for the event may contact the college’s Automotive Center between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at 636-481-3436 Monday through Friday. Those seeking a free oil change are asked not to call outside those times because students will be in class.
