The Jefferson County Health Department has reported six more COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the total number of COVID deaths in the county to 28 this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through mid-May. The deaths were reported to the department during the week of Jan. 14-20.
So far this season, Jefferson County has seen one flu-related death this respiratory season. That death was reported the week of Jan. 7-13, according to the Health Department.
From Oct. 1 to Jan. 20, 4,401 COVID cases were reported. During the same period, 619 flu cases were reported, with 449 type A cases and 170 type B cases, the Health Department reported.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness.
In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
