Jefferson County has seen 14 COVID-19 deaths so far this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through mid-May, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.

During October, nine COVID-related deaths were reported. In November, an additional five deaths were reported, according to the Health Department.

From Oct. 1 to Nov. 25, the county saw 1,487 COVID cases. During that same time period, 64 flu cases were reported, with nearly two-thirds being Type A cases, according to the Health Department.

No flu-related deaths have been reported this respiratory season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get the recently updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness

In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
