Influence Church, which is housed in the old LaJade Theater, 125 E. Main St., in Festus invites the public to attend free film screenings on Friday evenings as part of its “Movies on Main St.” program, which began in April.
The feature tonight (May 7) is “Yes Day,” a 2021 family comedy starring Jennifer Garner, and the May 14 featured film will be “The Greatest Showman,” a 2017 musical starring Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movies start at 7 p.m.
Scott Gerken, the congregation’s campus minister, said the “Movies on Main St.” program also showcases area businesses.
“We’re partnering with local businesses,” he said. “They’re bringing promotional materials. It’s all local businesses that want to participate.”
He said the church recently purchased a large LED screen, which gives the screenings “more of an IMAX theater look.”
The theater has a capacity of about 300 people, but the movie viewings are limited to 150 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gerken said attendance at the movies has been solid since the program began.
“We had about 70 for the first one and about 100 last week,” he said.
Gerken said the congregation will offer “Movies on Main St.” for the foreseeable future.
“The intent is to meet a need,” Gerken said. “We’ll do it as long as people attend.”
