The parent company of the Gordmans department store has announced that it will close its locations in both Fenton and Arnold, leaving the Crystal City store as its only one in the St. Louis region.
Stage Stores, the Houston-based buyer of assets from the bankrupt Gordmans company, said in an email that it will continue to operate the Crystal City store, 110 Twin City Drive, but will close its other five stores in the St. Louis area.
Stage will close Gordmans in Arnold, 235 Arnold Crossroads Center; in the Gravois Bluffs Plaza in Fenton, 687 Gravois Bluffs Blvd.; in St. Charles, 1355 S. Fifth St.; in Fairview Heights, 81 Ludwig Drive; and in O’Fallon, Mo., 2259 Hwy. K, according to the email.
The company did not provide dates for when the stores will close.
The Crystal City location will be the only Gordmans to remain open in the area.
The Crystal City location opened June 27, 2019. The location previously housed the Peebles department store, and it was one of 74 Gordmans stores Stages opened last year.
The Arnold location opened in July 2014.
The St. Louis-area Gordmans had survived a previous round of closures by Stage in 2017, the year Gordmans filed for bankruptcy. At that time, a Chesterfield location was closed.
“As is common practice in the retail industry, Stage Stores reviews its store fleet on a regular basis to ensure we remain competitive and best positioned to provide options to our guests,” the company said in its recent email.
Stage operates other department stores under the names of Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage.
Gordmans offers name-brand clothing, home decor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and other items, according to the written statement.
