Dobbs Tire and Auto Centers plans to open a Eureka store in early May, vice president and marketing manager Mike Collet said.
The business will operate in remodeled space at the former site of Fire Master Fire Equipment, 1299 West Fifth St.
According to a press release, the remodel, slated to start immediately, will create a showroom, waiting area and nine service bays in the 12,000-square-foot building.
Collet said the new location will create around 18 to 20 new jobs.
Collet said new homes being built in Eureka and the city’s access to I-44 made it an attractive location for Dobbs.
“It was a good opportunity and we like the location,” he said.
Collet said Dobbs is primarily a tire store, but also does other vehicle work.
“Anything under hood, anything under vehicle, we can pretty much handle it,” he said. “We will be set up at that store to handle all major automotive repairs.”
Collet said the store will be open 7 a.m. to at least 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and be closed on Sunday, like all other Dobbs stores.
The Eureka Board of Aldermen voted 6-0 to approve the business’s special-use permit on Jan. 21.
