A Missouri Department of Transportation project will close the southbound I-55 ramp to southbound Hwy. 67 in Festus for about five hours during the day Wednesday (July 29), the agency has announced.
The work, which is desogned to improve safety conditions on the ramp, is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., MoDOT reported.
The project calls for the addition of a southbound auxiliary lane on I-55, where concrete will be added to expand the ramp linking the interstate with the highway, MoDOT spokesperson Rachel Sudduth said.
She said the work is being done because of recent accidents involving tractor-trailers that have turned over on their sides while the drivers attempted to negotiate the ramp.
MoDOT advises motorists to detour around the closure by exiting I-55 at Hwy. A and taking Hwy. A to Hwy. 61-67 and then taking that to Hwy. 67.
