The Hwy. A ramp used to access northbound I-55 in Festus will close overnight Friday for bridge construction, officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation said Thursday.
Weather permitting, MoDOT crews will close the ramp from Hwy. A to northbound I-55 as well as the right lane of northbound I-55 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday to set girders for the I-55 bridge over Third Street.
A detour will direct traffic around the closure. Drivers will be able to take Hwy. 61-67 north toward Herculaneum, take a left onto McNutt Street and take the ramp on the right side of McNutt to enter northbound I-55.
The construction is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely to just south of Festus. The project is set to wrap up next December.
The purpose of the overall project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region, according to the MoDOT website.
