The Hillsboro R-3 Board of Education has extended Superintendent Jon Isaacson’s contract by one year, through the 2025-2026 school year.
“Jon Isaacson has full board support,” said Beth Petry, the board president and a retired teacher. “He is one of the most honest, transparent superintendents I have worked with during my teaching career. His work ethic and compassion for doing what is right for the staff and the district is insurmountable.”
Isaacson’s salary for the 2023-2024 school year has not yet been set. His current annual salary is $171,598.
“I am so proud of our Hillsboro students and the talented educators and support staff committed to their well-being and learning,” Isaacson said. “I am grateful to our Board of Education for their leadership and confidence in our leadership team. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the Hillsboro community into the 2025-2026 school year, and I look forward to all that we can achieve together.”
Isaacson and Melissa Hildebrand, both assistant superintendents at the time, took over the district’s superintendent duties in July 2018 after Aaron Cornman resigned from the Hillsboro superintendent position.
The board decided the two assistant superintendents would share the superintendent’s duties until the end of that school year, June 30, 2019, at which point Isaacson became the superintendent and Hildebrand continued as assistant superintendent, a spot she still holds.
Hillsboro school board members voted 6-0 in January to extend Isaacson’s contract. The board has had a vacancy since November when Lisa Welker resigned.
Isaacson, 47, of Hillsboro has two children.
