The city of Hillsboro is no longer under a boil water advisory.

A second consecutive water sample tested negative for contaminants this morning, Nov. 3, clearing residents and businesses to consume water without boiling it. The city announced the end of the advisory at 8 a.m.

City Administrator Jesse Wallis said the first clean sample was returned to the city Wednesday, Nov. 2.

He said the advisory was issued after a contractor broke a water main at about 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, while using a boring machine to install fiber optic cable near the intersection of Business 21 and Ridgewood Drive.

“The contractor bored right into a pipe,” he said. “It was right there on 21 in the right of way, and they veered off or something and went right into the pipe.”

Wallis said water service was shut off until about 4 p.m. Monday.
