The QuikTrip convenience store and gas station in Herculaneum is set to close May 2 for several months for a demolition and complete rebuild, a company official said today (April 20).
“We are replacing the location with a new design,” QT spokesman Mike Thornbrugh said. “We are going to tear down the existing store and replace it with a ‘Generation 3’ – our new model.”
He said the redesigned Herculaneum site should be similar to the QT stores in Arnold and on Meramec Bottom Road in south St. Louis County.
“The gas pumps will be the same,” Thornbrugh said. “The difference will be the look and design. It will stay about the same size.”
Thornbrugh said the target for reopening the new QT store is mid- to late-September.
He said the existing store originally opened in December 1991.
For years, a Wendy’s restaurant shared the building with the QT. The Wendy’s closed Dec. 15, 2015 and the space it occupied has remained empty ever since. The rebuilt QT will not share space with another business, he said.
“It will simply be a QT (after the rebuild),” Thornbrugh said.
QT launched its QT Kitchens with a made-to-order menu in St. Louis in 2014, according to its website. The Arnold and Meramec Bottom sites have QT Kitchens.
The QuikTrip Corp. is headquartered in Tulsa, Okla., and has more than 700 stores in 11 states.
