Jefferson County has seen nine COVID-19 deaths so far this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.
With the start of the new respiratory season, which runs through mid-May, the Health Department is again tracking both COVID and flu numbers.
During the first two weeks of the reporting period, four COVID-related deaths were reported. In the following three weeks, an additional five deaths were reported.
From Oct. 1 to Oct. 29, there were 698 COVID cases reported in Jefferson County. During the same time period, 31 flu cases were reported, including 20 Type A and 11 Type B cases, according to the Health Department.
No flu-related deaths have been reported so far this season.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
The CDC also recommends everyone 6 months and older get the recently updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness
