For the third year in a row, the Harlem Wizards will be at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill to show off their basketball magic and compete against teams made up of Northwest R-1 School District teachers and administrators and other local residents and business people.
Doors will open at 1 p.m., and the game will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, in the school gym, 6005 Cedar Hill Road. Doors to the event will open at 1 p.m.
Advance tickets range in price from $5 for students and $10 for adults for general admission to $16 for reserve seating to $25 for courtside ticket. Tickets at the door will be $6 for student and $12 general admission.
Proceeds will benefit the Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event.
About 1,000 people attended the event last year, said Julie Schwarz, the chamber’s executive director.
She said the school gym can hold 2,000 people and she is hoping for a larger crowd this year.
“I think the weather kept a lot of people in (last year),” Schwarz said.
She said the event is always a good time.
“It’s been so successful the last couple years and everyone seems to enjoy it,” she said.
Schwarz said the Harlem Wizards wow the crowd with basketball tricks, but also provide a positive message for students, which could be about bullying or other topics of interest to youngsters.
She said the Harlem Wizards also dance and get the crowd involved in the show.
“It’s just a lot of audience interaction,” Schwarz said.
She said her favorite part of the event is seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces.
Schwarz said the event lasts about four hours.
In addition to the Northwest R-1 staff members, local teams that will compete against the Wizards will include employees from Meet Me at the Bar, Comtrea and Production Castings.
She said Kingpin Properties is a sponsor.
