Arnold Mayor Ron Counts, front and center, at the start line during the annual Turkey Trot, held Thanksgiving morning at Arnold City Park.

The Turkey Trot, held the morning of Thanksgiving (Nov. 24) at Arnold City Park, was the largest in the run’s history, with nearly 1,800 people taking part, organizers said.

More than 1,650 people signed up for the 5K, and another 139 children, ages 12 or younger, registered for a 1-mile fun run/walk that was part of the event, said Molly Curcuru, recreation supervisor for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

“It was the most we’ve ever had,” she said. “The event was wonderful, and the participants were excellent.”

The city didn’t make much money on the Turkey Trot, but $906 in donations was collected at the event to benefit the Arnold Food Pantry, Curcuru said.

“And, we collected many loads of canned goods and toiletries that were taken to the Arnold Food Pantry,” she said.

The top three male finishers in the 5K were Steve Moore, 34, of Arnold, with a time of 17:02; Joshua Ferguson, 18, of Herculaneum, 17:17; and Nathan Glastetter, 17, of Imperial, 17:24.

Top female finishers in the 5K were Katelyn Evans, 22, Bolivar, 19:22; Molly Stuckmeyer, 18, House Springs, 20:31; and Nicole Beckman, 39, Fenton, 20:48.

The Arnold Turkey Trot was one of three held in the St. Louis area on Thanksgiving. The others were held in Eureka and St. Charles.
