Visitors to the Festus Post Office this afternoon (June 8) may have received a free stamp, or maybe a few free stamps, thanks to First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City members, who gave them out for about an hour as part of a community outreach effort.
“We’re giving one or whatever they need,” said Ryan Nichols, a student pastor at the church. “If they want four, we’ll give them four.”
Church members said they purchased 100 stamps and started giving them out at about 1:40 p.m. at the entrance to the post office entrance.
Nichols said the stamp giveaway was part of a week-long giving effort, including free coffee and doughnuts, barbecues and other surprises for the community.
He said the point of the giveaways “is to show people the love of Christ.”
About 15 members of the congregation took part in the stamp giveaway.
“We have church members who are in elementary school to high school to adults,” Nichols said.
