Fox High School Student Council members have created backdrops inspired by the movie “The Wizard of Oz” to decorate the school for homecoming. The homecoming theme is “There is no place like homecoming,” and the week culminates with a home football game Friday and dance on Saturday.

Fox High School will hold a weeklong homecoming celebration, including a televised pep rally, parade and dance.

The celebration is called “There’s no place like homecoming” and has a “Wizard of Oz” theme, Student Council social committee chair and sophomore Jaylynn Barnhart said.

“Friday is going to be a really big day,” said David Pleimann, a science teacher and Student Council sponsor.

The Fox High football Warriors will close its regular season with a game against Ladue at 7 p.m. Friday at the school’s stadium, 751 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.

Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The Warriors will enter the game with a 3-5 record following a 35-16 victory over host Parkway South on Oct. 13. Ladue is 4-4 after a 45-0 win over visiting Riverview Gardens last week.

At Friday’s game, Breast Cancer Awareness night also will be recognized, and Student Council members will sell ribbons and bracelets to raise money for breast cancer research. Students also are encouraged to wear pink to the game.

“Homecoming is something everyone gets excited about,” Barnhart said. “October is always a big month with the football game and the dance.”

The pep rally and parade also will be held on Friday, but they are for students only.

The parade will traverse the Fox schools campus with students from the elementary, middle and high schools lining the route as various team and club members walk by.

Before the football game, at about 6:30 p.m. Friday night, the homecoming court will be introduced, said Samantha Brengle, a math teacher and Student Council sponsor.

This year’s homecoming court is divided into couples. Senior couples vying for the king and queen titles are Macy Hruskocy and Travis Michler; Amaya Williams and Sidney Sebold; Hunter Naylor and Trinity Berry; and Emilia McCann and Riker Roe.

Junior couples competing for prince and princess are Emma Merlenbach and Wesley Jefferis, Gabriella Kennedy and Brayden Griffith; and Ayra Zukic and Brayden Pizzo.

Candidates for duke and duchess are sophomores Noah Council and Avery Terhaar; Jenna Millerbaugh and Lily McCown; and Jessica Bretz and Kito Roe.

Freshmen couples in the running for baron and baroness are Anthony Reed and Caelyn Wasem; Owen Nash and Alexis Hayes; and Alyssa Twitchel and Cole Theobald.

Brengle said the winners will be crowned during Saturday’s dance.

While the final two days of homecoming week are filled with activities, students have been displaying their school spirit since Monday.

Barnhart said Student Council members decorated the high school with images from the “Wizard of Oz” movie and theme days are being held all week.

■ Monday was “We’re not in Kansas anymore,” and students were encouraged to wear St. Louis-themed clothing.

■ Tuesday was “Oz the great and powerful,” when students were encouraged to wear green and bling.

■ Wednesday was “Which witch is which?” and students dressed like twins. The day also featured a powder-puff football game pitting 11th grade girls against senior girls.

■ Thursday was “Lions, tigers and bears, oh my!” when students wore animal-print clothing.

■ Friday will be called “There’s No Place Like Home,” and students are encouraged to wear Fox High clothing.

“It is a really exciting week, and there is school spirit all around,” Barnhart said.
