Fox Elementary School students and staff recently fought off the winter doldrums by creating a 3 1/2-minute video to the song, “What Does the Fox Say?”

The school’s approximately 600 students and staff members got the chance to dance and lip synch in the video, titled “What Does Fox Staff Say?”

“We were having the winter blues. The kids were stuck inside, and we were wanting to stay active,” Fox Elementary principal Lisa Sell said. “It was fun and energetic, and it pepped everyone up. It was motivational for everyone.”

Michelle Brown, the site director for the school’s Character Kids Club before- and after-school program, came up with the idea and produced the video, Sell said.

“We have a dynamic CKC site director,” Sell said. “She really takes pride in what she does at our school. She’s created other videos for the school.”

Brown, who regularly makes videos under the handle, Michizzle, wrote the lyrics, with some help from staff and students, and sang the song in the video.

The school’s mascot, Freddie the Fox, also is featured in the video, which was posted on the Fox School District’s website on March 4 and on YouTube on March 5.

By this morning (March 7), the video had 3,277 hits on YouTube.

Sell said the video was a big success.

“Everyone sees the joy and goodness in this, and the pride it brings the school.”

Sell said it took about a month to make the video and they finished about one and a half weeks ago.

On one rare warm day in February, the school had a fire drill, so the school took advantage of the chance to shoot some footage outside.

“We were outside, and I said, ‘Let’s dance,’” Sell said.

That’s the day Freddie the Fox decided to make an appearance, dancing on the school’s roof.

Making the video didn’t take away from regular school work, Sell said.

“We made sure it didn’t conflict with instructional time,” she said.
